suitable moment for abandoning our treaty safeguards. I asked him to call on the Colonial Secretary on his way though Hongkong and give an account of his visit to Canton, which hepromised to do. If his articles in the Daily Herald are anything like his conversations with me, they will not afford much satisfaction to the extremist supporters of that paper.
